Time for Facts

What is it?

Did you know that special-interest deals in Michigan force our school districts, universities and state government to lose millions and millions of tax dollars thanks to fiscally unaccountable and outdated rules from 50 years ago that mandate payment of above-market rates for government construction?

It’s called the Prevailing Wage Act and every year it’s killing jobs, wasting taxpayers’ money, and holding back Michigan’s schools.

How much waste
does the prevailing
wage law create
in your district?

Time for Accountability

Who is harmed?

Students

Cash strapped schools are forced to take loans they can’t easily pay back, and pay above-market rates they can’t afford toward construction costs and contracts. Students lose, because billions that could have gone to improving schools instead go to a wasteful and unnecessary mandate.

Workers

By raising the cost of construction and making it less affordable, Michigan’s Prevailing Wage Act kills construction jobs and hurts Michigan workers. Entrenched interests win and Michigan workers lose jobs.

Taxpayers

Michigan taxpayers want schools to be the beneficiaries of their tax dollars, not government construction contracts. Studies have consistently shown $250 million can be saved every year on public school and university construction alone by repealing Michigan’s Prevailing Wage Act.
